Preschool Language Arts Lesson Plan #1

Objectives: Learn new vocabulary words. Gain basic motor skills. Learn how to read sentences.

Supplies:
Coloring pencils, markers or crayons
Scissors
Old catalogs, magazines or kids textbooks
Glue
Color construction paper
Notebook or copy paper
2 Poster boards

Cut out various pictures from your old catalogs, books or magazines. Allow students to pick which pictures they want to cut out. Guide them in cutting out these pictures by allowing them to grasp the scissors while you direct them.
Write the names of the events, people or objects in the picture on strips of copy paper. Have them match the picture with the words.
Once they have matched all of the names with the pictures, have them paste the name-picture groups on the large poster board.

Cut out some more pictures from your books. Have them pick pictures that show events (kids running, people playing, walking, going to the store etc.) and show them how to use the scissors to cut them out.
Ask the students what is happening in the pictures. As they explain write down one sentence about the event on strips of paper.
Have them match the sentences to the pictures. Once they have done so, allow them to paste the groups on to your other poster board.
